Night skiing is back!
When our team acquired the mountain in December of 2019, we had less than a year to rebuild and reopen a defunct resort. The mountain had been mismanaged and unmaintained for years. To say there was a lot to do would be a massive understatement.
We had to choose very carefully which projects to prioritize. It was clear from the jump that the mountain’s old lighting system was unsalvageable. With so much to do and so little time, lighting would have to wait.
The team put all of our efforts into a complete overhaul of the snowmaking system, installing two brand new chair lifts, a major base lodge renovation, new ticketing technology and other critical improvements.
Snowmaking and grooming were our #1 priorities. We installed over 100 new snow guns, laid more than 16,000 feet of new snowmaking pipe, and quadrupled the water pumping capacity of the system. Our new snow guns were installed in places that would make grooming of the mountain each morning fast and efficient, ensuring a consistently groomed surface every day.
Prioritizing snowmaking and grooming has more than paid off. The mountain saw its earliest opening ever this season, with skiers and boarders hitting the slopes before Thanksgiving Day. Even after a warm and rainy start of January, we still have 95% of the mountain open thanks to our substantial snow coverage.
Now in our 3rd season of operation with our snow management dialed in, our team was able to tackle lighting the lower half of the mountain for night skiing. The mountain’s electrical distribution system has been entirely revamped. More than 10,000 feet of new wire was buried underground, and over 100 lights were installed from mid-mountain to the base. The first night skiing took place on December 26th, 2022.
We now host night skiing on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Night skiing is included in your daily lift ticket or season pass! Whether you’re staying slope side for the weekend or making a day trip, extended hours mean you have more choices on how to spend your time at Timberline Mountain.
When the sun goes down and the lights turn on, a different kind of mountain comes to life. Skiing and snowboarding at night is a unique and exhilarating experience, and with live music at the Slippery Slope Bar & Grill every weekend, the party’s just getting started! More night skiing activities are on the horizon…but no spoilers!
We are beyond excited to be able to bring you this incredible new way to enjoy the mountain. Come join us every weekend this season here at Timberline Mountain!
